How to Choose the Right Painting System

Why do I need a Painting System?
  Speed:
Each system significantly reduces the time required to complete a painting project.

Ease:
Each system makes a painting project less grueling by reducing bending; reducing the potential for messes when working with open paint containers, paint cans, etc.; and makes it easier to truly get clean versus using brushes and rollers.

Economy:
Saves money versus hiring the job out. They all have the potential to use less paint and get the job done quicker than using manual tools when painting for a living.

How do I choose the right Painting System?

Campbell Hausfeld makes two categories of powered paint applicators:
    1. Floor Mounted Airless Systems
    2. HVLP Systems

1. Floor Mounted Airless:

With Campbell Hausfeld paint sprayers, frequency of use is less of a consideration than the types of coatings to be
sprayed when choosing a painting system.

If you only spray thin coatings, such as lacquer, polyurethane, etc., any of our airless sprayers will do the job.
The choices then become preference issues:
        Wheels or No Wheels.
        Hose Length Included.
        Gun Type Included.
        Control System.

When stepping up to interior and exterior paints, the maximum tip size of the sprayer is what should be considered:
Maximum tip size .015" - thin coatings, oil based coatings, economy latex coatings.
Maximum tip size .017" - those listed above plus premium latex coatings and economy primers.
Maximum tip size 0.19" - those listed above plus premium primers and dry fall/dry fog.
Maximum tip size .021" - those listed above plus elastomerics.
To be sure - consult the coating manufacturer for the recommend tip size for spray application.

2. HVLP Systems:

With the exception of the consumer Easy Spray HVLP models, frequency of use is less of a consideration than the types
of coatings and projects when choosing a system.

All of our HVLP systems will spray latex.
The smaller the turbine, the more varieties of latex paints that are likely to require thinning.
The size of the turbine will also determine how fine the mist created can get.
If your projects require a high degree of craftsmanship, a larger system will better satisfy your needs.

Use this application chart to help you match your project with the right painting system. Airless systems are best used for large interior/exterior needs, and HVLP systems are best used inside or outside for fine finishes on walls, trim, and furniture.
